We arrived to a beautiful crisp but sunny day. Unusual for this time of year, but nevertheless a welcome start. At first it appeared that Sancette had traveled really well, apart from pulling off a front shoe. Sadly, our joy was short-lived, as the next morning he appeared quite lame. A visit from our team vet revealed that he had stood on a nail from the shoe which had gone quite deep through the sole. Even though at first it seemed not to be in a dangerous spot, further investigation revealed it was dangerously close to the pedal bone. We are now treating it as a very serious injury, and the next few days are going to be a very tense while we pray it won’t deteriorate further, and that he makes a speedy recovery. At worst it can be a life threatening injury and at best recover in a few days.
